The very first design book I saw – and bought – was ‘Graphic Design, Visual Comparisons’ by Fletcher/Forbes/Gill. A classic, it was true to its form and had few words, but many images told their own story.
Colin Forbes, a key figure in British graphic design, was one-third of the legendary Fletcher/Forbes/Gill design partnership. Born in London, he studied at the Central School of Art and Design, where he met his future collaborators. Forbes brought a meticulous and analytical approach to the firm, renowned for his clarity of thought and elegant, functional design solutions. His work spanned a wide range, from corporate identities to exhibition graphics, always emphasising simplicity and effectiveness.
